Understanding The Fastest Way To Lose Weight

Everyone is looking for the fastest weight loss. It’s as if it’s some sort of a magic pill that once you take it, it will miraculously spare you from all the anxiety caused by your love handles. I cannot say this is impossible. With all the advances in technology and innovativeness of the experts, you now have the option to lighten the pounds you see on your weighing scale—immediately. But before we get to that point, let us first understand how we may lose weight.

When looking at weight loss, it is important to know what type of body tissue is being depleted because technically, weight reduction may occur due to the loss of fluid, body fat, muscle, or any other connective tissue.

Fluid Loss: Illusion of Weight Loss

Weight loss that is mainly attributed to the loss of body fluid is not healthy. This is because water that is lost comes from the loss of glycogen stored inside the muscle. Glycogen has the property of attracting water. It can be found within muscle tissue that acts as an energy reserve. When a person eats minimal amounts of carbohydrates, the muscle uses glycogen to fuel contraction. Over time glycogen reserves are exhausted and so is the muscle’s capacity of retaining water thus resulting to water loss.

Diets that cut back carb intake usually manifests with water loss on the first few weeks. However, this should not be used to gauge weight loss.

Fat Loss

Contrary to common belief, fat is not “bad”. However, this is the type of tissue that we want to get rid of as fat pads can be very disfiguring. Nonetheless, they still serve several purposes in our body. Body fats, also called adipose tissue helps insulate the body as well as provides energy after all the carbohydrates are burned.

Lean Muscle

The last thing you would want to happen is have your lean body mass, like the muscles, to be used up by your body. But this only happens when a person does not consume the right amount of calories (e.g. improper dieting) that there is not enough for them to fuel the increased demands of the body. Although muscle loss may be the fastest way to lose weight, however, this practice is inappropriate as this could cause the metabolism to slow down and decrease your ability to lose weight in the future.
